Wilmington, DE
Background
Brandywine Design was the sole designer on this project.
Objective
The client had two reasons for her renovation, (1) to replace the flat, off-white wall paint with a durable paint that was able to hide fingerprints and other dirt, and (2) to add some life and color for a strong first impression.

Client Interview
The client wanted something that would coordinate with her gold-framed collection of blue and white china prints and also her plant collection.
Details/Design Recommendations
We worked closely with an artist skilled in faux finishing to come up with a paint technique that would be very durable. Once we selected the finish, we discussed a color theme. At first, a two-tone beige finish and a two-tone red finish were considered. The red seemed much too dark and although the beige looked good, it was just too plain. The artist then made two more samples - one a subdued apple green and the other a warm terracotta. When the samples were displayed on the wall, the terracotta color just made everything pop! All of the plants, artwork, and architectural moulding looked so much richer against the terracotta background. Once the wall color was chosen, a bright, colorful floral print was used for chair re-upholstering. The fabric repeated the terracotta in the paint, the blue in china prints, and the green and lavendar in the plants and flowers.
Result
We accomplished the client's goals of having a foyer that makes (1) makes a strong first impression, while (2) is very functional and practical.
